Jörg-Andreas Bötticher, geboren 1964 in Berlin, studierte Alte Musik in Basel. Einem Diplom für Orgel bei Jean-Claude Zehnder und für Cembalo bei Andreas Staier schlossen sich Studien bei Jesper B. Christensen und Gustav Leonhardt an. Mit dem Ensemble La Fenice (1990–2004) erkundete er die Musik des italienischen Frühbarocks.

Er konzertiert als Solist, mit der Geigerin Plamena Nikitassova, sowie mit verschiedenen Kammermusik- und Orchesterformationen (u.a. Akademie für alte Musik, Bachstiftung St. Gallen, Voces Suaves). Bötticher ist Professor für Cembalo, Orgel und Generalbass an der Schola Cantorum. An der Musikhochschule Basel unterrichtete er von 1998–2016 Aufführungspraxis älterer Musik. Kurse und Vorträge führten ihn an verschiedene europäische Musikhochschulen und nach Bogotá.

Er ist Organist an der Predigerkirche Basel und Mitinitiator der dortigen Gesamtaufführung der Bachkantaten (2004-2012) sowie künstlerischer Leiter der „Abendmusiken in der Predigerkirche“ (seit 2013). Juror von internationalen Orgelwettbewerben wie z.B. Innsbruck, Lausanne oder Lübeck. Er publizierte zu den Themen Generalbass, Musikästhetik und zum Kantatenoeuvre Bachs. Verschiedene CD-Aufnahmen dokumentieren sein Interesse für unbekanntere Komponisten, wie z.B. Alessandro Poglietti, Michelangelo Rossi und Gottlieb Muffat, oder Carlo Zuccari und Gaspard Fritz (mit Plamena Nikitassova).

Born in Berlin in 1964, Jörg-Andreas Bötticher studied early music at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel (1983–90). He concluded his studies with diplomas in organ and harpsichord in the classes of Jean-Claude Zehnder and Andreas Staier, as well as a wide-ranging training in music theory, and went on to postgraduate work on the harpsichord with Jesper Christensen and Gustav Leonhardt.

He now appears as a soloist, in duo with Plamena Nikitassova, and with such ensembles as Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, Bachstiftung St. Gallen and Voces Suaves. Bötticher is professor of harpsichord, basso continuo and organ at the Schola.

In addition he is titulaire of the Predigerkirche in Basel, famed for its three historical organs and artistic leader of the monthly series of "Abendmusiken in der Predigerkirche". His recordings as a soloist and with the violonists Hélène Schmitt, Chiara Banchini and Plamena Nikitassova have been warmly praised by the critics.

His musicological publications (such as the article on basso continuo in the music dictionary MGG) show the different aspects of his musical interests and commitments, balanced between performing and theoretical considerations.
